Week 1 Bible verse and Commentary

For this first week, we will be starting off with the basics. Our focus will be on the commandments of Jesus Christ to all humans, beginning with Matthew 4:17.

“From that time Jesus began to preach and say, ‘Repent [change your inner self—your old way of thinking, regret past sins, live your life in a way that proves repentance; seek God’s purpose for your life], for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.’”

In this profound scripture, Jesus emphasizes the importance of repentance. He did not come to condone sin but to call people to a higher standard of living, one that aligns with God’s will. Jesus’ message serves as a reminder that while we may struggle with imperfections and shortcomings, there is an opportunity for transformation through sincere repentance.

As followers of Christ, it is essential to internalize this message. We are not meant to live in sin while claiming to follow Jesus. Instead, we are encouraged to reflect on our actions and seek God’s guidance in our lives. The call to repentance is an invitation to change our inner selves, shifting away from old ways of thinking that do not honor God.

As you go about your day today, keep this teaching in mind. Sinning is not an option when it comes to living a life dedicated to Jesus Christ. It is a reminder that while we are called to love others, we must also recognize the difference between loving the sinner and rejecting the sin. True love urges us to guide ourselves and others toward a path of righteousness and alignment with God’s purposes for our lives.

Let this week be a time of reflection, growth, and a deeper understanding of what it means to live in accordance with the teachings of Jesus. May we all strive to seek God’s purpose and live lives that are a testament to our faith.
