So here is the story first chapter in regular writing format instead of manga comic format “To find Friend”. The 30 pages are not going to get done until I learn the new drawing app. Thus enjoy the regular format.
Chapter 1
Maria Hannah Gracie frowned as her video on how to make Yuzu pepperoni pizza switched to an ad.
“Are your pillow covers bland?!” The deep adult male voice in the ad questioned as the cameras zoned in on a living room purple sofa with 3 pillows in plain pillow covers. “Then come on in to Cook Tan Events City and buy yourself some nice upgraded pillow covers!”
Maria had seen this ad many times over the last couple of days while watching videos on Earth Vid a platform for watching and uploading videos by christians for christians like Tuvu. It was almost Thanksgiving and so the home decors companies were working on the double to convince adults with disposable incomes to go shopping for their products for the Thanksgiving week. Since such a week meant not just school closing for the week but large families gathering and parties. Families gatherings and parties that required decorations and table sets and so on. The company Cook Tan Events City was no different. They wanted families and adults to spend money at their stores which meant putting out ads after ads after ads. Which is why Maria was used to seeing ads by them.
“From bears pillows with a pumpkin pockets for holding your flowers and books and so on.” The ads continued. “To custom hearts shaped pillows with a special someone name. To scented pumpkin pillows covers which you just rub to smell the many wonderful scents of autumn like those cute bookmarks but for your pillowcovers.”
Maria pink lips pressed together. She hated annoying ads like these that where meant for old people like her mom and grandma. She was not into home decorating like they where. She would much rather watched an ad about the new water park that had just opened up two cities over in Yellow River Texas then the ignoring ads about pillows covers.
Which is why the hispanic girl sighed a sigh of relief when the skip button appeared in the video. Not giving it much thought she click on the skip button ending the ad and returning her to her original video about making Yuzu pepperoni pizza.
“Now a Yuzu fruit is a fruit found in Japan…”
Within less then 10 seconds she paused because the car she was currently in was slowing down. Taking of her JBL headphones the red hair green eyed teem of Spanish and French descent looked toward the driver seat of the 2009 honda Civil she and most of her friends where in. The was a question for her beastie since 1st grade on her lips.
“Are we there yet?” She voiced confusion in her voice. Her beastie since 1st grade James Jonathan Matthew tossed her a quick glance via the front mirror then answered.
“Nope.” He said.
Maria frowned. If they were not there then why was James slowly down. The airport is where they wanted to be at not where they were at the moment.
“Oh.” The green eyed teen said. “How many miles?”
“About 53.6 miles left to go.” The blue eyes blonde haired young adult said.
The eighteen year old girl raised an eyebrow. Yep just like she thought it was odd that they were off the highway and slowly down.
“Okay….” The wavy haired teen said completely confused. “So why are we slowing down?”
Pink lips pulled into a smile. “To get gas Ma.” James answered using her nickname a playful look in his blue eyes and Maria laughed. Of course! Gas!
“Right!” Maria said and James laughed. Then a pause before.
“You want to hear a joke?” James questioned and Maria nodded. She will just finish her video later.
“Yeah?”
“Cool.”
“The was a newbie waiter who started working for a restaurant.”
“Ok….”
“On the first day of work the newbie named Sarah was asked to go to the tables and asked if the customers wanted tea or coffee? “
Maria frowned she had never heard that joke before. James continued. “So the newbie did as she was told and when to each table asking if the customer wanted the tea or coffee. ” Maria raised an eyebrow. Okay…..? Where was the joke? Where was the punchline.
“A few minutes later the waitress returned back to the manager a beam on her face. The Manger was pleasantly surprised at how well the newbie how worked and was about to compliment her when all of a sudden a customer, a large man came running towards one of the cooks and punch him then thank the newbie. Confused the Manger looked toward the newbie who answered “I asked him if he wanted tea or coffee. He said tea so I told him his little sister was being cheated on by her boyfriend the cook.”
Maria blinked then busted out laughing. Oh it was a tea or coffee joke. Tea meaning gossip and coffee meaning getting roasted and the newbie confusing what was being asked of her to ask the customers after the question was asked had told a gossip. That was clever.
“Haha!” Maria said slapping her knee. Tears threatening to spill from her eyes sockets.
“Yep.” James beamed. “I got more where that can from.”
From besides Maria and the passager seat area a couple of voices questioned.
“Do you all have to be so loud?”
“Yeah why so loud? Some of us had to pull an all nighter last night so we could go on this trip.”
“Are we there yet?”
The voices belonged to their 2 other friends and an older cousin traveling with them. Some of their parents had refused to let them go on the trip without an older sibling or cousin with them. Thus James older cousin Ashley Thomas was traveling with them. She was a college freshman who had moved from California to Texas for college because it was cheaper. Their other two friends in the back seat with Maria were Samuel Bartolomew Brown and Frankie Mary Cohen.
“My bad.” Maria said as she paused in her laughter. She felt s3lf conscious and bad at her behavior.
James on the other hand was unbothered. He simply shrugged his shoulders and said. “Was about to wake you all anyway. “
“Why?”
“Because we are making a quick stop to the gas station. Payton text her gas is running low. ” Payton was Samuel Brown older sister also in college. She, Ashley, Ethan Longriver and Daniel Wong were older kids in college traveling with them to Brazil for twins birthday party. A party that was going to.be held over the Thanksgiving week. It was the only way their friend group could go. “Oh.”
“Yep” James said as he pulled into the gas station called ‘Texas Strong”.
